Empowering Young Champions: Unleashing Potential Through Football

1. What Is PSA Player Voice?

PSA Player Voice is a structured one-to-one conversation between an individual player and a PSA coach. It gives the player dedicated time to speak openly about their football experience, development, confidence, team environment, challenges and goals.

The session is designed to look beyond match results and training performance. It helps PSA understand the person behind the player and gives the coach a clearer picture of how to support that player.

“We don't only develop the footballer. We develop the person behind the footballer.”

2. Why PSA Is Introducing It

PurposeWhat it means
ListenGive every player a genuine opportunity to express how they feel.
UnderstandLearn what the player is experiencing beyond what a coach can see during training and matches.
DevelopIdentify individual strengths, challenges and areas for improvement.
SupportRecognise concerns around confidence, motivation, relationships and the player's overall football experience.
PlanAgree on practical development goals between the player and coach.

3. What Happens During the Session?

  1. Player voice — The player speaks first. The coach listens and asks open questions.
  2. Coach feedback — The coach shares observations about the player's football and personal development.
  3. Development goals — Player and coach agree on 2–3 clear priorities for the next stage.
  4. Follow-up — Progress can be reviewed during the next PSA Player Voice session.

4. What Will We Talk About?

TopicConversation
My teamHow the player feels about their team, teammates and football environment.
My coachHow the player experiences coaching, communication and support.
My developmentWhat the player believes they have improved and what they want to improve.
My confidenceHow comfortable and confident the player feels during training and matches.
My challengesAnything that is difficult, frustrating or preventing the player from progressing.
My goalsWhat the player wants to achieve in the short and longer term.
My voiceAnything important the player wants their coach or PSA to understand.

5. Age-Appropriate Player Conversations

Age groupConversation focus
U7–U9How do I feel? Simple, friendly questions about enjoyment, friendships, confidence and what the child likes or finds difficult.
U10–U12How am I developing? Questions about skills, progress, teamwork, confidence, challenges and personal football goals.
U13–U15Who am I becoming as a player? Deeper discussion about strengths, weaknesses, pressure, responsibility, coach expectations and development.
U16–U17Where am I going? Individual football pathway, ambitions, position, training habits, leadership, competitive level and future objectives.

6. The Player's Development Plan

The session should finish with a small number of clear, realistic priorities. The purpose is not to overload the player with instructions. It is to give the player a direction for the next stage.

7. What Parents Can Expect

  • A dedicated individual conversation focused on the player's experience and development.
  • A development-focused approach rather than a simple match-performance assessment.
  • Age-appropriate conversations that allow younger and older players to express themselves in different ways.
  • Clear development priorities that can be followed up by the coaching team.
  • A stronger connection between player, coach and academy.

A Note About the Player's Voice

PSA wants players to feel that their opinions matter. The conversation is designed to be respectful, age-appropriate and supportive. It is not a disciplinary meeting. If a player raises a serious welfare or safeguarding concern, PSA will address it through the appropriate safeguarding process.

8. The PSA Philosophy

At Paulstiga Soccer Academy, football development is not only about what happens on the pitch. We believe that young players develop best when they are listened to, understood, encouraged and given clear direction.

The player speaks. The coach listens. Together, we build the next step.

9. A Message to Our PSA Parents

Dear PSA Parents,

At Paulstiga Soccer Academy, we want every child to feel valued not only as a football player, but also as an individual.

That is why we are introducing PSA Player Voice—an individual Player–Coach Development Session that gives each player dedicated time to speak, reflect and be heard.

Football is a journey, and every player experiences that journey differently. Some players may be confident and expressive. Others may have questions, frustrations or concerns that they do not naturally share during a group session.

Through PSA Player Voice, our coaches will take time to listen to the player, understand their perspective, provide individual feedback and work together with the player to establish clear development goals.

Our objective is simple: to help every PSA player feel heard, supported and clear about their next step.
